We started keeping chickens in 2012 and have had a few flocks since then. Sadly we have a lot of issues with predator in our area. You may notice that we will use a lot of preventative measures to insure our next flock of hens does not become some other critters dinner.
This year will be the first year we raise chickens for meat as well.
We raise ducks in our backyard. They are our pets and a source of delicious eggs that are wonderful to bake with. We have had predator issues with them as well. In 2012 we raised up a pair of pekin ducklings that we taken by a raccoon. Last year we raise 3 blue runner ducks who produced a small flock of their own ducklings. This year we will likely go back to the pekins, they were wonderfully friendly.
